Staying Adventurous During The School Year

Summer break is on its last leg.

School starts in two days.

I’m trying to remain calm while realizing I’m not as prepared as I thought. It’s like I’ve walked into the wilderness with no map or guide. Either way, we’ll make it work.

The other side of my brain is focused on content creation & most of it is adventure-related. Quite a few road trips were put aside this season because time hasn’t allowed. Life has been on full force. And like you, we’re working to keep our overall health in check & our heads above water.

The struggle continues.

At one point I found myself worrying about our adventure plans but make no mistake… we will take full advantage of virtual learning. I’ve really tried to convey to my daughters (@2pbgirls) how beneficial this is. They can work from anywhere as long as Wifi is available. Therefore, school doesn’t have to affect many of our plans.

Because we gravitate more towards outdoor adventures, we’ll be spending the rest of summer & majority of fall outside. We have quite a few hikes planned as well as other outdoor explorations. Luckily, there are various local places we haven’t ventured to. This saves us time & money!

Have you researched local hikes & other outdoor adventures in your area? Unless you’re new here, you know we’re strong advocates for exploring locally. Our family has discovered plentiful treasures right in our area.

Is it also your family’s goal to adventure in spite of the new school year? If so, I encourage you to put it on the calender. Have specific days & times that you plan to head out. When it’s scheduled, your family can view it as a non-negotiable & plan accordingly. Life happens & even when plans change, you’ll have your activity already mapped out for the next time around.

I try to plan adventures in bulk. I have a journal of adventurous activities & itineraries I add to consistently. Doing this kind of research can go on for hours. It makes me so excited to find new family activities for us to enjoy. The challenging part is finding the time.

Have you ever thought of planning your adventures in bulk?

Figure out your desired areas or how far you want to go, and start there. Because we’re still in a pandemic, keep social distancing in mind. If you’re planning to cross borders into other states, know the rules & guidelines ahead of time.

This can also pertain to your job. If you’re working outside of the home, be sure your company doesn’t have quarantine rules for out-of-state travel. Once you know your limitations, you can plan accordingly.

Let me know how you’ll explore now that school’s back in session.
