Visiting Kaleideum North Science Museum
It seems impromptu road trips are our specialty nowadays. Carpe diem!
This time around, driving for hours wasn’t an interest. We wanted a simple change of scenery & Winston Salem was the perfect distance. The only uncooperative aspect was the weather. Talk about a miserable day.
Continual rainfall was in the forecast with no chance of sunshine. Logical people would’ve stayed home but our restlessness often has no logic. After an unrelenting week, we wanted OUT of our normal environment.
Our Destination…
A search for kid activities pulled up an impressive list, but outdoor fun was nixed by the rain. We don’t mind getting wet, however, playing in torrential rain isn’t our idea of a good time!
A science museum, Kaleideum, immediately caught our attention. There are two locations in Winston Salem: Kaleideum North & Kaleideum Downtown. We chose Kaleideum North for this trip but hope to visit the other soon.
@2pbgirls were extremely excited to explore a new-to-us museum. They thoroughly enjoy learning about science & nature. Interactive activities only add to their enthusiasm & this museum has it all. There’s even a planetarium on site!

Know Before You Go…
We arrived late & therefore didn’t have enough time to explore the place from rooter to tooter. We also missed out on the gardens & other outdoor areas thanks to the weather. I suggest giving your family 2-4 hours to spend at this location. Such a time frame should give you ample opportunity to explore exhibits, read the information, walk nature trails, & check out a show.
Upon entering, there is a place to hang your coats & umbrellas if you're not interested in carrying them. We chose to keep our things with us but it was nice to have the option. Restrooms are also near the entrance.
Most exhibits are hands-on so remember to keep hand sanitizer convenient & wash with soap & water before eating. I know this should be a no-brainer but many people don’t do it! As a family, we do our best to keep our hands clean & away from our faces.
There are water fountains but per usual, bring your own for convenience.
You are welcome to bring lunch. This facility has a vending area to purchase snacks but there is not a cafeteria on site.
The Science Gift Shop is sure to catch your little one’s eye so plan accordingly.
Although our time was limited, we had a lot of fun visiting Kaleideum North. I highly recommend checking it out if you’re in the area. Be sure to visit the website beforehand to find out about show times, admission fees, hours, & for answers to other questions you may have. Also, learn about hosting birthday parties, rentals, camps, programs, & their Peppercorn Theatre performances on the site.
