A Casting Director Emailed Me

Many people wait until year’s end to reflect but I do it often out of necessity. Thinking regularly about my goals, progress, stumbling blocks, & opportunities keeps me sane. How about you?

One of the toughest areas to reflect on is opportunities: missed, denied, & the like. We all must come to terms with the fact that every opportunity isn’t the right one. They can’t be. If you believe in God, the law of attraction, etc, you also believe the right opportunities will show up!

A few months ago, I received an email from a casting director. He was casting for a new family documentary series on a major… AND I MEAN MAJOR…. network. The network is in partnership with another MAJOR network for this project.

We were mind blown!

He found us via social media & loved our family’s vibe. Our sense of fun, adventure, & family stood out to him. He wanted to know if we were interested in being on the show. No worries folks. I did my research, checked him out, & got all in his business.

He’s the real deal.

At this point, we all wanted to pinch each other or pass out. We consider ourselves a family in media but going to this level of audience reach was a dream come true. About a week prior to this, we’d participated in a promotional commercial/video for local events (see it here). The “bug” was hitting us pretty hard to say the least!

If you’ve read the “Meet Tandra” page on this blog, you know my love for the camera. I’ve also had my fair share of experience. The rest of my crew was finally getting a taste of the industry I love so much. We were high on possibilities & the flows of life!

With flows, however, come ebbs.

The opportunity presented by the casting director was wonderful but came with high stipulations. Stipulations that would completely uproot our lives as we knew it. It would’ve been great if we were prepared but we weren’t. We had our daughters, Johnny’s job, & other big factors to consider. Being seen by millions wasn’t worth our family’s peace of mind.

You’re probably thinking you would’ve made it work, figured it out, & just maybe you would’ve!

This particular opportunity, however, wasn’t our ministry. It wasn’t right for us & we had to turn it down. Although we did our best to remain positive & optimistic, we were devastated for a while. The sting of it still lurks to be honest.

But God….

Have you ever heard that expression? It simply means God is in control no matter how things appear. We believe that. Maybe this one didn’t work out but we believe other great opportunities are on the way. They’ll be right for us & not come with such drastic changes. People with keys to the doors we’re trying to get through are watching. We now have proof of that.

I want you to remember this story when you’re facing something you have to turn down. Every opportunity isn’t suppose to be the right one. We all have to learn & practice discernment in life. Your time is coming. Keep working, pushing, resting, taking care of yourself, creating, & believing.

Keep going.

If you don’t give up, you will reach your destination. It may not be the route you planned to take but you’ll get there nonetheless. We don’t talk about everything we’re doing or everything that comes our way but things come to fruition in due time.

Btw… if we see the show on Disney Plus, we may let you know. *wink, wink*
